Handwriting resume
Have you ever wondered, “why don’t Japanese people create their resume online?”
Of course some Japanese, especially young people, prepare their resume online these days. However, others still prefer hand-written resume.
You should have found it so hard to write a resume with your hand that you have ended up in create them online. Then why do hand-written resumes attract Japanese HR manager?
Hand-writing can tell how serious you are about the job
Have you ever tried to write a resume with your hand?
You should write not only hiragana and katakana but also kanji which makes you really annoying. Even for Japanese people, it is very stressful because they are not allowed to miswrite any single character. They must write with a pen, so if you miswrote even a single word you have already got beyond the point of no return.
All you can do is REWRITE ANOTHER ONE from the very start. Yes, writing a resume takes lots of time. But this is the very important point. If you are not so serious about the job you are going to apply for, you should have less motivation in it. So some Japanese companies deliberately have you write a resume with your hand to measure your motivation.
Important points which Japanese companies will see carefully
There are 2 points that companies emphasize:
They check whether there are any omitted / incorrect letters and whether you wrote carefully or not. Even if you are a non-Japanese, miswriting will only have a slight negative image of you although they will overlook mistakes to some extent.
And regarding the second point, “careful handwriting” does not always mean “beautiful handwriting.” You know you cannot do better than have a beautiful handwriting, however, what matters is how seriously you wrote the resume. You don’t have to try to write beautifully, but just be sure to take as much time as possible.
Points to remember when creating a resume
- Smell of cigarette smoke
Odor is easy to stick to a resume paper. You should be careful when writing one. - Standard format of Japanese resume
Some resumes in other countries don’t have specific form to be used. But when you take an interview for a Japanese company, you must choose Japanese-style standard format. You can buy them at convenience stores, stationary shops and 100 yen shops etc. - Don’t use correction tape
We also think it easy to use a correction tape when miswriting. You can use them on your notebook but it is not preferable for Japanese resume. You should just rewrite another one if possible. - Paste an identification photo on it
Please don’t forget to paste your photo. This is not because companies are going to judge you by your face. So we recommend you wear neatly and smile softly when taking a photo. We will introduce you how to take an identification photo!!
